Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, on Tuesday paid a high-profile visit to Ikorodu Division, where he received strong political backing and endorsements from community leaders, traditional figures, and senior politicians.
The visit, described as a significant political engagement, began at the residence of former Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, where several prominent indigenes and party leaders gathered to receive him. Among those present were APC leaders in Ikorodu, including Ashipa Kaoli Olusanya and Olasunkanmi Tijani, alongside other dignitaries.

Hamzat was accompanied by notable political figures such as former senators Musiliu Obanikoro and Ganiyu Solomon, Chief Mutiu Are, Bode Oyedele, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works, Adekunle Olayinka.
Speaking at the gathering, Prince Ogunleye expressed gratitude over the political direction of the state and offered his support for Hamzat’s leadership journey. He said, despite earlier expectations among Ikorodu indigenes, they accept the current political reality and remain committed to supporting him.
“We support you and pray that God will guide you in the discharge of the responsibility of serving Lagos,” Ogunleye said.

At another engagement, the Asiwaju of Igbogbo Kingdom and Governance Advisory Council (GAC) member, Olorunfunmi Bashorun, also endorsed Hamzat, describing him as a worthy leader.
Former Lagos Head of Service, Prince Adeseye Ogunlewe, also commended Hamzat’s character and administrative experience, describing him as well-suited for higher responsibility.
During the visit, Hamzat assured residents that his administration, if given the opportunity, would prioritise urban renewal, infrastructure development, and improved social amenities across Ikorodu and Lagos State at large.
He later visited another GAC member, Chief Olumuyiwa Sosanya, at his Kosofe residence, where further political discussions were held.

Sosanya, speaking during the visit, stressed the importance of experienced leadership in Lagos politics.
“Lagos is too important to fail. If Lagos fails, Nigeria will feel the impact. That is why we must support a tested politician like Dr. Hamzat,” he said.
The visit is widely seen as part of ongoing political consultations ahead of future elections, with key stakeholders expressing growing support for Hamzat’s leadership aspirations.
