Enugu State stakeholders on Tuesday visited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House, Abuja, where they secured his assurance of continued federal collaboration to accelerate development across key sectors in the South-East.
During the meeting, the President highlighted ongoing and planned interventions, including the Port Harcourt–Enugu rail project, power sector reforms, and other critical infrastructure aimed at improving connectivity and economic growth.
The delegation was led by Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, and included prominent political and religious figures such as former Senate President Ken Nnamani, former Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and Sullivan Chime, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Kelvin Aneke, and former Minister Frank Nweke Jr.
Also present were elder statesman Chief Jim Nwobodo, Senator Osita Ngwu, Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, Bishop Christian Onyia, traditional ruler Igwe Samuel Asadu, Osita Okechukwu, Dr. Dan Sherry, and former Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogala.
President Tinubu used the opportunity to reflect on Nigeria’s long-standing infrastructure challenges, attributing them to poor long-term planning and the mismatch between short-term funding and long-term national projects.
He expressed optimism that ongoing reforms and stronger collaboration between federal and state governments would reposition the country for sustainable growth.
Commending Governor Mbah’s administration, Tinubu said the progress recorded in security, infrastructure, education, and healthcare in Enugu State shows that reforms are beginning to yield results.
Governor Mbah, in his remarks, thanked the President for federal support to the South-East, noting improvements in road and rail infrastructure, aviation reforms, and the establishment of the South East Development Commission.
He also highlighted gains in internally generated revenue, expansion of road networks, smart schools, healthcare facilities, and agricultural investments in the state.
Former Senate President Ken Nnamani, speaking on behalf of the delegation, described the visit as a gesture of appreciation for federal projects in the region and reaffirmed the support of Enugu stakeholders for the President.
The meeting ended on a note of renewed commitment to cooperation between the federal government and Enugu State in driving development and strengthening national unity.
