The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down two illegal factories in Lagos State involved in the production and distribution of counterfeit and adulterated alcoholic beverages valued at about N350 million.

The agency announced the operation in a statement shared on its official X handle, explaining that the raids were carried out based on credible intelligence about the activities of the syndicates.
According to NAFDAC, enforcement officers stormed locations at Zamfara Plaza within the Trade Fair Complex and parts of Lagos Island, where they discovered large-scale production of fake alcoholic drinks.

At the Trade Fair Complex, operatives reportedly uncovered makeshift production setups including mixing tanks, filtration equipment, counterfeit packaging materials, and branded bottles used to mimic genuine products.
In a separate raid on Lagos Island, one suspect was arrested in connection with the illegal production and distribution of the fake beverages through a retail outlet. Authorities also seized more than 1,800 cartons of adulterated alcoholic drinks during the operation.

The agency confirmed that all confiscated items have been taken for further regulatory action and investigation.
NAFDAC also warned the public about the dangers of consuming counterfeit alcoholic products, noting that they pose serious health risks such as poisoning, organ damage, and even death.
