Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu disclosed the figure during a meeting of the Joint Revenue Board in Lagos, noting that the amount represents a 39% increase compared to the N1.2 trillion recorded in 2024.

He attributed the growth to ongoing reforms, improved tax compliance, and the digitalisation of revenue collection systems, stressing the importance of granting autonomy and support to state tax agencies.

According to him, Lagos’ revenue success has been driven by deliberate investments in technology, expansion of the tax base, and efforts to build trust between government and taxpayers.

The Governor also noted that the increased revenue has supported major infrastructure and social development projects across the state under the THEMES+ development agenda.

Chairman of the Joint Revenue Board, Zacch Adedeji, praised Lagos for its consistent fiscal reforms, adding that the state’s revenue growth reflects years of sustained policy implementation and institutional strengthening.

He further highlighted that Lagos has evolved from generating less than N94 billion annually in 2007 to over N1.7 trillion in 2025, describing it as a model for other states.

Also speaking, Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, Lagos State Internal Revenue Service, credited the achievement to government backing, staff welfare improvements, and investments in infrastructure.

He added that Lagos remains a reference point for effective tax administration in Nigeria, as stakeholders continue to push for more harmonised revenue systems across states.
