A tragic incident has been reported in Oyo State after a wild elephant entered Innayin Community, resulting in the death of one resident and leaving another person missing.

According to the police, the situation unfolded in the afternoon, prompting an immediate response from officers alongside local vigilantes and hunters. Upon reaching the area, the body of a 45-year-old man, Ibrahim Tijani, was found in a nearby bush with injuries believed to have been caused by the animal. His remains were later taken to a general hospital in Iwere-Ile for examination.

Authorities also confirmed that another resident, identified as Alhaji Muhammadu Bingin, is still unaccounted for following an encounter with the same elephant. Search operations are currently ongoing to locate him.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, stated that efforts are underway to secure the area, while residents have been advised to stay away from the affected location and report any sightings of the animal.

Relevant wildlife authorities, including the National Park Service, have been contacted to assist in handling the situation in line with conservation regulations.
The State Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Olugbenga, assured the public of continued efforts to protect lives and restore safety, while urging residents to cooperate with security agencies as operations continue.
