The Nigeria Revenue Service has dismissed a viral message claiming that the Federal Government has introduced a new tax on vehicles, describing it as false and misleading.
In a statement issued by Dare Adekambi, the agency clarified that no such policy exists and urged Nigerians to ignore the circulating infographic.
The fake notice had claimed that owners of private, commercial, and corporate vehicles would begin paying a new tax from July 1, with instructions to make payments online or through designated banks. It also directed users to a website that is not associated with the agency.

Adekambi explained that the information did not originate from the NRS or any government body. He also pointed out that the website listed in the message is incorrect, stressing that the official portal of the service is different.
According to him, the Federal Government has not introduced any new vehicle tax, and the public should be cautious about misinformation spreading online.
He advised Nigerians to rely only on verified communication channels and official platforms for accurate updates on tax policies and government announcements.
The agency further warned that false information of this nature is often designed to mislead the public and create unnecessary panic.
NRS urged citizens to confirm any tax-related news directly from its official website and social media handles before taking action.
