The Technical Committee of the Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) has invited 40 boxers to its final phase of open camping ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled to take place in Lagos.
The selected athletes, made up of 20 male and 20 female boxers, are mostly finalists from the National Boxing Open Trials held in February across various weight categories.

An official invitation has been issued to the boxers, along with their coaches and other technical officials, ahead of the commencement of the training camp.
The camp is set to open on Friday, May 1, at the Lt. General Kenneth Minimah (rtd) Boxing Hostel within the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, with training sessions expected to begin the following day.
The Chairman of the NBF Technical Committee, Babatunde Laguda, said the federation is committed to ensuring thorough preparation for the Commonwealth Games, stressing that early camping is part of its strategic approach to international competitions.

He explained that only 10 boxers will eventually be selected from the 40 invited athletes to represent Nigeria at the Games.
According to him, the process is designed to ensure that only the most prepared and competitive athletes make the final team.

The Vice President of the NBF, Hon. Omonlei Imadu, also emphasized that the federation is focused on selecting boxers who are genuine medal prospects, noting that the criteria for international selection have been strengthened under the current leadership.

He added that the federation, working with the National Sports Commission, is committed to ensuring Nigeria presents a strong and deserving team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Nigeria is expected to field 10 boxers at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, scheduled for July 23 to August 3 in Glasgow, Scotland.
