Kano Government Allocates ₦1.5bn for Mass Wedding of 1,500 Couples

The Kano State Government has allocated about ₦1.5 billion, equivalent to approximately $1.1 million, to support a mass wedding programme involving 1,500 couples across the state.

The initiative covers several expenses for participating couples, including medical examinations, bride payments, household furniture, domestic items and other essential provisions.

As part of the support package, each groom will receive ₦100,000 towards the payment of dowry, while each bride will receive an additional ₦100,000 as start-up capital to establish a small business.

The beneficiaries were selected through a screening process designed to ensure their readiness for marriage. Prospective couples were required to undergo medical examinations and participate in pre-marital counselling before being approved for the ceremony.

The programme is aimed at supporting prospective couples with the financial and practical needs associated with starting married life.
