The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to strengthening operational efficiency, discipline, and grassroots security as 1,068 newly trained constables passed out in Akwa Ibom State.
He made the remarks during the passing-out ceremony, where he oversaw the completion of intensive firearms and tactical training conducted in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Government.

According to the Police, the training covered modern policing and combat techniques, including weapons handling, tactical movement, ambush response, vehicle interception, and other operational drills designed to prepare officers for field deployment.
A key highlight of the development is that the newly recruited constables have been certified and authorised to bear arms immediately after training, marking a shift from the traditional practice where officers wait years before being deployed in armed roles. Authorities say the move is part of the federal government’s broader community policing strategy aimed at improving security at the grassroots level.

During his visit, the IGP also addressed senior officers in the state command, stressing the importance of mentorship, discipline, and leadership in shaping the performance of the new recruits.
He cautioned Commissioners of Police across the country to take full responsibility for the conduct of officers under their command, warning that they would be held accountable for any misconduct within their jurisdictions.
The police chief also condemned recent misconduct involving an officer in Delta State, confirming that the officer had been dismissed and would face prosecution. He further warned that violations of firearms regulations would attract strict disciplinary action, including dismissal.

Olatunji Disu commended the leadership of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command and expressed appreciation to the state government for its continued support to the Nigeria Police Force.
He encouraged officers to uphold professionalism and dedication in their duties, while assuring that the Force remains committed to protecting lives and property across the country.

Senior police officials at the event also praised the IGP’s leadership and decisiveness, describing the training initiative as a major step toward improving operational readiness within the Force.
