Former Adamawa State governorship candidate, Senator Aishatu Binani, has officially defected to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), in what marks another major shift in her political journey ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Her latest move comes about nine months after she left the All Progressives Congress (APC) and previously aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Speaking after receiving her NDC membership card, Binani said her decision was influenced by what she described as the party’s structured approach to governance and the strong backing of her political supporters.
She explained that her supporters played a key role in guiding her decision, noting that political choices are often shaped by changing realities on the ground. She also stressed that she does not discredit her past political affiliations.

Binani further stated that her supporters had already begun building a strong base within the NDC before her official defection, adding that Adamawa now has one of the highest memberships in the party.
She emphasized that her political success has always been driven by her grassroots supporters, whom she credited for sustaining her career and influence.
She also called on the NDC leadership to uphold fairness, transparency, and internal democracy as key principles for strengthening the party.

Welcoming her into the party, NDC National Leader, Seriake Dickson, described the party as open and inclusive, urging other politicians across the country who are dissatisfied with their current platforms to consider joining.
He assured Binani and her supporters that the party is ready to accommodate new entrants and strengthen its national structure ahead of future elections.

Binani, a former senator and the APC governorship candidate in the 2023 Adamawa election, was a key figure in one of the most competitive races of that election cycle.
Her defection is expected to further reshape political alignments in Adamawa State as preparations for 2027 gradually intensify.
