LAGOS ENROLS 6.4 MILLION RESIDENTS IN MASSIVE DIGITAL IDENTITY DRIVE

The Lagos State Government has announced that over 6.4 million residents have been registered in the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency database as part of efforts to improve governance and public service delivery.

According to Alake, the registration exercise has so far captured 4,058,333 adults and 2,407,224 children across the state.

He explained that the Lagos Identity Card project, known as LAG ID, plays a major role in the state government’s strategy to enhance governance efficiency and improve access to public services in line with the administration’s development agenda.

The commissioner stated that the identity management initiative was created to provide the government with a reliable database for planning, policy execution, and effective distribution of resources.

Alake noted that the system operates on an open framework that encourages collaboration between government institutions and private sector organisations while maintaining a centralised data management structure.

Speaking on digital monitoring and enforcement, he revealed that the state has recorded a rise in digital traffic enforcement activities, with about 86,000 cases tracked in recent months and approximately 737,000 recorded overall.

He also highlighted the “Art and Technology Lagos” initiative, describing it as an annual platform designed to bring together stakeholders within the technology ecosystem to support the development of a smarter city.

On data security, the commissioner said Lagos currently has 109 data protection officers responsible for ensuring compliance and safeguarding residents’ information.

Alake further disclosed that government online platforms receive around 250,000 visits monthly, with backend analytics being used to track user engagement and improve service delivery.

Regarding infrastructure development, he stated that the state has already deployed nearly 3,000 kilometres of fibre duct infrastructure across areas such as Alimosho, Ikorodu, and Ibeju-Lekki, with plans to expand the network to 5,000 kilometres through partnerships with private investors.
