Kenne Okonkwo dismisses peter obi’s n5 billion lawsuit threat
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has reacted strongly to the N5 billion defamation lawsuit threat issued by the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi.

Reports had earlier stated that Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra State, issued a pre-action letter demanding that Okonkwo retract his statements, pay N5 billion in damages, and publicly apologize within seven days over alleged defamatory claims.
The allegations center on claims that Obi allegedly defrauded House of Representatives aspirants of N10 million each and influenced candidate selection in the South-east region. Okonkwo previously served as Obi’s spokesperson during their time in the Labour Party.

Responding via his verified X account, Okonkwo dismissed the lawsuit threat, saying Obi should go ahead and file the case if he believes he has a strong claim. He also criticized Obi’s legal team and described the situation as unnecessary.

Okonkwo further insisted that he would respond properly after reviewing the letter, while maintaining that he stands by statements made based on information he claims to have received in his former role.

He also shared screenshots of WhatsApp conversations and a bank payment receipt as supporting material. However, critics online argued that the evidence did not clearly support the allegations made, with some suggesting the payment was related to party processes rather than any personal transaction involving Obi.
The controversy has sparked mixed reactions on social media, with users debating the credibility of both the claims and the evidence presented.
