The monarch’s death was announced through a voice message circulated by a member of a committee that had been working to negotiate his freedom. According to the message, attempts by family members, community leaders, residents and religious figures to facilitate his safe return were unsuccessful.

The committee described the development as a painful loss to the community and called on residents to remain strong and accept the situation with faith.

Sources involved in the negotiations disclosed that the abductors had demanded ₦21 million, two motorcycles and a jerrycan of petrol as conditions for the monarch’s release.

Reports also indicate that residents had remained hopeful that ongoing discussions would lead to his freedom. However, those hopes were dashed when news emerged that the traditional ruler had died while still being held captive.

Although the monarch’s body had not yet been recovered at the time of the announcement, arrangements were being made for Islamic funeral rites in accordance with religious traditions.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over insecurity and kidnapping activities in parts of the country, with community leaders calling for stronger measures to protect lives and property.

Residents of Olayinka community have since expressed grief over the loss of their traditional ruler, describing him as a respected leader whose death has left a significant void in the area.
