NTDA DEMANDS THOROUGH INVESTIGATION INTO CLERIC’S DEATH IN ONDO HOTEL

The Nigerian Tourism Development Authority (NTDA) has called for a comprehensive investigation into the death of a 71-year-old cleric, Elder Omotayo Fajana, whose body was discovered in a hotel room in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the agency expressed concern over the circumstances surrounding the incident and urged security agencies to ensure a thorough and transparent probe.

Fajana was reportedly in the town to attend a church programme where he was scheduled to be installed as the Head Prayer Warrior Father of a Cherubim and Seraphim Church congregation.

Authorities have already arrested three suspects in connection with the case, while preliminary police findings reportedly raised questions about the handling of the deceased’s body, particularly its transfer to a mortuary without formal medical confirmation of death.

Reacting to the development, the NTDA described the incident as disturbing and extended condolences to the family of the late cleric, members of his church, and the Akungba-Akoko community.

The agency stressed that reports of suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and the alleged movement of the body without proper procedures require urgent clarification by investigators.

According to the NTDA, incidents of this nature can negatively affect public trust in the hospitality industry and must be addressed promptly. The authority emphasized the need to establish the facts surrounding the death, identify any lapses in procedure, and ensure accountability where necessary.

The agency further stated that a credible investigation and swift justice are essential to uncover the truth and reassure the public about safety standards within Nigeria’s tourism and hospitality sector.

The NTDA reaffirmed its commitment to guest safety and disclosed that it is working with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to strengthen compliance with safety regulations across hospitality establishments nationwide.

It also revealed plans to intensify monitoring and enforcement efforts in collaboration with state governments, while continuing engagement with hotel operators, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders to promote a safer tourism environment.
