The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), Dr. Mohammed Bello Shehu, has disclosed that the commission has concluded its review of requests for improved salaries and benefits for political and public office holders and has submitted its recommendations to President Bola Tinubu for consideration.
Dr. Shehu made the announcement while receiving members of the Council of Retired Permanent Secretaries during a courtesy visit to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

He explained that the commission thoroughly assessed the requests presented by the retired permanent secretaries in line with its constitutional responsibility to review the remuneration of public and political office holders.
According to him, several of the issues raised by the council were considered during the review process before the recommendations were forwarded to the President.
Shehu said the commission remains committed to supporting initiatives that will improve the welfare of retired permanent secretaries and ensure they enjoy a dignified life after years of dedicated service to the nation.

He also commended the retired civil servants for their significant contributions to Nigeria’s public service, describing them as experienced professionals whose knowledge and expertise remain valuable to national development.
The RMAFC chairman noted that retired permanent secretaries still have an important role to play in shaping government policies and providing guidance on critical national issues through their wealth of experience.
He added that the commission would continue to carry out its constitutional mandate by giving fair consideration to matters relating to the remuneration and welfare of eligible public office holders.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Elder Akin Arikawe, said the visit was aimed at strengthening the relationship between the Council of Retired Permanent Secretaries and the commission while expressing appreciation for the RMAFC’s efforts in addressing issues affecting former senior civil servants.

Arikawe explained that the council was established to preserve institutional memory, provide policy advice and support government efforts through constructive engagement on matters of national importance.
He added that the council, guided by its motto, “Continuous Improvement,” remains committed to promoting reforms that will enhance governance and improve public administration across Nigeria.
