DEPUTY GOVERNOR ESCAPES FATAL ACCIDENT, SURVIVORS HOSPITALISED.

Cross River Deputy Governor Odey survives convoy accident in Ugep

Cross River State Deputy Governor, Dr Peter Odey, has survived an accident involving his convoy in Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area of the state.

The accident occurred at about 2pm on Sunday while Odey and members of his entourage were returning to Calabar from Obanliku Local Government Area, where they had attended a stakeholders’ engagement on the proposed concession of the Obudu Ranch Resort.

The condition of the deputy governor was not immediately made public as of the time of filing this report. However, some members of his entourage were reportedly injured in the incident.

A Government House press bus conveying some appointees and staff attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor reportedly veered off its lane near an Army checkpoint in Ugep before crashing into three sandbag barricades.

Sources said one person, whose identity was not immediately known, sustained a leg injury, while another was reportedly seen bleeding from the nose.

Several vehicles were also said to have been damaged in the accident, although the extent of the damage could not be independently verified.

The incident reportedly marks the third accident involving the deputy governor’s convoy within two months, raising concerns over the condition of the vehicles being used for official assignments.

Further checks indicated that the fleet attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor had been depleted, with vehicles from the governor’s convoy reportedly being deployed when necessary.

The latest accident has therefore renewed concerns about the adequacy and condition of vehicles assigned to the deputy governor’s office.
