President Bola Tinubu has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State.
The election is scheduled to hold on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with 15 candidates contesting for the governorship seat.
In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu urged INEC to protect the integrity of the electoral process and ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair and orderly manner.
The President also called on security agencies to protect voters, electoral officials and other participants throughout the election period, while urging Osun residents to come out and exercise their civic responsibilities peacefully.
Tinubu stressed that the outcome of the election should reflect the genuine choice of the people of Osun State, without intimidation or interference.
He further urged INEC to use the Osun governorship election as an opportunity to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
The President also appealed to political parties and their supporters to avoid actions that could disrupt the peaceful conduct of the poll.
Tinubu assured voters of the government’s commitment to providing a safe environment before, during and after the election.
