INEC GIVES FRESH UPDATE ON ONGOING OSUN GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has provided a fresh update on the ongoing Osun State governorship election as voting and counting continue across the state.

According to the latest reports, voting has progressed in many polling units, while sorting and counting of ballot papers has already begun in some areas, including parts of Ilesa West and Ejigbo Local Government Areas.

Earlier, election observers reported that INEC officials had arrived at 78 per cent of 300 polling units being monitored by Yiaga Africa as of 8:30 a.m.

The election is being held across Osun’s 30 local government areas, with more than 2.3 million registered voters and multiple candidates contesting the governorship seat.

While the exercise has generally recorded voter participation, there have also been reports of BVAS-related complaints, alleged vote-buying and an incident of violence at a polling unit in Ejigbo.

INEC is expected to continue receiving results from polling units before the formal collation process and declaration of the winner.
