Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has won his polling unit in the ongoing Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke secured 421 votes at Polling Unit 009, Abogunde/Sagba, in Ede North Local Government Area, defeating his major challengers by a wide margin.
According to the result announced by the Presiding Officer, Adebimpe Susan Dunsin, the APC candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, polled 29 votes, while the ADC candidate, Najeem Salaam, recorded one vote.
A total of 457 voters were accredited to vote out of the 1,082 registered voters at the polling unit. Voting ended at about 4:15 p.m.
The announcement of the result triggered celebrations among Adeleke’s supporters and residents gathered around the polling unit.
The crowd could be heard chanting the governor’s campaign slogan, “Imole,” as they celebrated his victory.
Adeleke had earlier arrived at the polling unit, where he was accredited at about 8:35 a.m., before casting his ballot.
Speaking with journalists after voting, the governor expressed confidence that he would emerge victorious in the election. He also urged residents across the state to come out and exercise their right to vote.
Adeleke called on voters to protect their ballots and remain vigilant throughout the voting, sorting, counting and collation stages of the electoral process.
He said the election offered the people of Osun an opportunity to freely decide who would govern the state for the next four years.
The governor also appealed to political parties, candidates and their supporters to remain peaceful and law-abiding, urging them to monitor the electoral process at their respective polling units in accordance with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Adeleke expressed optimism that the election would be peaceful, credible and reflective of the choice of the electorate.
Following the declaration of the result at his polling unit, supporters intensified their celebrations, chanting “Imole” and celebrating the governor’s decisive victory over the APC and ADC candidates.
