Hooded gunmen reportedly stormed a collation centre in Osogbo, Osun State, on Saturday night, disrupting the ongoing collation of results from the governorship election.
The incident occurred at about 9:45 p.m. at the Ataoja D collation centre inside Union Baptist Primary School, which covers several polling units in Ward 4.
According to reports, the attackers fired sporadically into the air for about five minutes, apparently to scare election officials and others away from the centre. The situation was later brought under control by security personnel.
The attack temporarily interrupted the collation process, while details about the identities of the gunmen and whether anyone was injured remained unclear as of the time of reporting.
The development comes amid heightened tension surrounding the Osun governorship election and concerns over attempts to disrupt the collation of results. Governor Ademola Adeleke had earlier called on President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies to protect collation centres and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the incident and the continuation of the collation exercise.
