The Federal Government has arraigned Adeniyi Adeyemi before the Federal High Court in Abuja over allegations linked to a purported government agency known as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
Adeyemi is facing an eight-count charge involving alleged forgery, impersonation, conspiracy and other offences connected to the activities of the organisation.
The government alleges that the council did not exist and that Adeyemi falsely presented himself as its Director-General.
Investigators also alleged that he used forged official documents, including an appointment letter purportedly signed by the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, to support his claim of being a government appointee.
The authorities further alleged that Adeyemi and two other individuals, who are currently at large, used the purported organisation to communicate with government institutions and seek official assistance for some activities.
According to investigators, 34 bank accounts were linked to Adeyemi, with some allegedly opened in the names of other purported agencies.
The Presidency had earlier issued a disclaimer stating that the alleged agency was not established by the Tinubu administration and that Adeyemi was not appointed by the government.
Adeyemi has denied the allegations and maintained that he was legitimately appointed to the position.
The case is now before the court, where the allegations against him will be determined through the judicial process.
