OYO POLICE ARREST THREE MEN OVER ALLEGED HOMOSEXUAL ACTS

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three men in Saki over alleged homosexual acts, an offence that could attract a maximum prison sentence of 14 years under Nigerian law. The suspects were identified as Ayomide Lukeman, 22, Shuaib Aremu, 22, and Abdul-Rasheed Mufeed, 23. Their arrest followed intelligence received by the police on September 29, 2026, which prompted an investigation into the allegations. The command has not disclosed the specific charges against the three men.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the arrests in a statement issued on Friday. He explained that operatives of the Command Monitoring Unit at the Saki Operational Base carried out the arrests after receiving information about the alleged activities. According to Olayinka, the Commissioner of Police directed the unit to verify the information and take appropriate action. The operatives subsequently acted on the directive, leading to the arrest of the three suspects.

Olayinka said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had allegedly admitted to engaging in homosexual acts. However, the police statement did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged activities. The command said its investigation was continuing to establish what happened and determine whether other individuals were connected to the case.

The police spokesperson further stated that two of the suspects allegedly confessed to having sexual relations with the third suspect on several occasions. According to the statement, the two men reportedly described the third suspect as their “wife.” The police did not provide additional details about the alleged encounters but confirmed that investigators were working to establish the circumstances behind the allegations and determine whether anyone else was involved.

Reaffirming the command’s position on the investigation, Olayinka said the police remained committed to conducting their work professionally and in accordance with the law. “The Oyo State Police Command reiterates its commitment to conducting investigations professionally, impartially, and in accordance with the law,” the statement said. The command also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information that could assist officers in preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes.

Under Section 214 of Nigeria’s Criminal Code Act, sexual acts classified as “carnal knowledge against the order of nature” carry a maximum prison sentence of 14 years. The provision was referenced in connection with the allegations against the three suspects. However, the police statement did not specify the particular charge against them. The command said investigations were ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding the case and determine whether other individuals were connected to the allegations.
