OLUREMI TINUBU INAUGURATES 50 CNG BUSES, LAUNCHES ₦1BN EMPOWERMENT SCHEME IN EDO

First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has inaugurated 50 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses and launched a ₦1 billion empowerment programme for 5,000 beneficiaries in Edo State.

The initiatives were unveiled on Thursday in Benin City, where Tinubu commended Governor Monday Okpebholo for introducing measures aimed at improving transportation and supporting economic growth. She described the projects as evidence of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of Edo residents.

Tinubu said the new buses would benefit the public, while the empowerment scheme would provide financial support to women, youths and other vulnerable groups. Under the programme, each of the 5,000 beneficiaries will receive ₦200,000 to strengthen their livelihoods, support small businesses and promote financial independence.

“I am glad to be in Edo today after quite a long time for the commissioning of 50 compressed natural gas buses for the benefit of the people,” the First Lady said in a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele. She also expressed hope that the financial assistance would help recipients expand their businesses and improve their economic circumstances. “I pray that the monies received will prosper in your hands and grow your businesses,” she added.

Earlier, Governor Okpebholo welcomed the First Lady, describing her visit as a demonstration of care, compassion and commitment to the wellbeing of Edo residents. He said the projects addressed two major needs in the state: affordable public transportation and economic empowerment, particularly for women and small-business owners.

According to the governor, the CNG buses would make public transport more accessible, affordable and efficient while offering environmental benefits. He added that empowering women could strengthen families and communities, noting that the programme was designed to support beneficiaries’ economic activities. Okpebholo thanked President Bola Tinubu for his leadership and support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the President and the All Progressives Congress (APC). He said his government would continue working towards an Edo State where good governance, economic opportunities and development reach every community.
