President Bola Tinubu has spoken about his son Seyi Tinubu’s growing political activities, saying he is “running after his father” while praising his involvement in mobilising young Nigerians through the City Boy Movement. The President made the remarks on Monday at an event organised by the group, amid public speculation about the younger Tinubu’s political ambitions.
Tinubu said he had received calls from people asking what political office Seyi intended to contest for. Responding to the questions, the President said his son was following his political path rather than pursuing a specific office, according to his remarks at the event.
The President praised Seyi and his colleagues for engaging young people, listening to their concerns and organising them without demanding political titles or public appointments. He said he was proud of their efforts and commended them for dedicating their time to reaching out to people in their age group.
Tinubu, however, urged his son not to rest on his achievements, encouraging him to do more and serve the country. He asked Seyi to work harder and set an example that his own children could be proud to follow, adding that Nigerians were watching the younger generation and that serving the country was a great honour.
Seyi Tinubu is the patron of the City Boy Movement, which mobilises young Nigerians in support of his father’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The group has carried out grassroots activities and encouraged youth participation in public affairs. His growing role in the movement has fuelled questions about whether he intends to seek political office, although the President’s comments at the event focused on his son’s mobilisation activities rather than announcing a specific candidacy.
