A former deputy governor of Sokoto State has urged people in Northern Nigeria to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former deputy governor made the appeal while discussing the political direction of the North and the need for the region to consider its interests in determining its support for the next presidential election.

He called on northern political leaders, community stakeholders and residents to assess the Tinubu administration’s policies and achievements before making decisions about the 2027 polls.
The appeal comes as political activities gradually intensify across the country, with supporters of the president mobilising for another term and opposition groups seeking to strengthen their influence in different regions.

The North remains an important political constituency in Nigeria, given its population and influence in national elections. Support from the region is therefore expected to remain a major issue in discussions surrounding the forthcoming presidential contest.

Political stakeholders have continued to express different views on whether Tinubu should receive another term, with debates focusing on economic conditions, governance, security and the performance of the current administration.
The former deputy governor’s call adds to the growing political conversations over the North’s position as parties and political figures prepare for the 2027 general elections.
