INSPECTOR-GENERAL RECOMMENDS 200% INCREASE IN GRATUITY FOR RETIRED POLICE OFFICERS

The Inspector-General of Police has proposed a 200 per cent gratuity package for retired police officers as part of efforts to improve their welfare and strengthen retirement benefits within the Nigeria Police Force.

The proposal is aimed at addressing concerns over the financial difficulties faced by officers after leaving active service and ensuring they receive better support following years of service to the country.

The recommendation also reflects ongoing discussions about improving the welfare system for security personnel, particularly in view of the risks and responsibilities associated with policing.

A more attractive retirement package could help boost morale among serving officers while providing greater financial security for those who have completed their careers in the force.

The proposal is expected to require consideration by the relevant government authorities before any changes can be implemented.

Retirement benefits and welfare conditions have remained important issues for police personnel and their representatives, who have repeatedly called for measures to improve officers’ working conditions and post-service support.

If approved, the proposed gratuity increase would represent a significant change to the retirement benefits available to eligible police officers.
