#Abuja School Explosion Claims Two Lives, Injures Four Others

Tragedy struck at an Islamiyyah school in the Kuchibiyi community of Bwari Area Council, Abuja, when an explosion claimed the lives of two students and injured four others. The incident occurred around noon on Monday, January 6, 2025, leaving the community, located about 42 kilometers from Abuja’s city center, in shock and grief.

Details of the Incident

According to reports, emergency responders and a police bomb disposal team rushed to the scene to provide aid and investigate the explosion. Injured victims were quickly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

A security source revealed that one of the deceased students was allegedly carrying a substance suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED) when it detonated, causing injuries and panic among other students. The identities of the deceased remain undisclosed.

The students involved were reportedly new admissions, having resumed at the school on January 3, 2025.

Arrests and Ongoing Investigations

Authorities reported that three individuals from Katsina visited the school’s owner, Adamu Ashimu, bringing with them the explosives. Two of these individuals died in the explosion, while the third was critically injured and is currently hospitalized.

The police have arrested Mr. Ashimu and announced plans to interrogate him. They assured that the investigation’s findings would be made public.

No Claim of Responsibility

While no group has claimed responsibility for the incident, northern Nigeria has experienced activity from various armed groups, some linked to the Islamic State. The police have yet to release an official statement, leaving many details of the explosion unclear.

Community Reactions

The explosion has left the Kuchibiyi community in mourning and fear. Parents and residents have called for increased security in schools and a thorough investigation to prevent similar occurrences.
