AIG Jimoh Assures Lagos, Ogun Residents of Improved Security
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, AIG Olorundare Jimoh, has assured residents of Lagos and Ogun states of continued efforts to strengthen security across the two states.
Jimoh also urged residents to maintain their trust and cooperation with the police, stressing that effective policing depends on strong collaboration between security agencies and the communities they serve.
The AIG spoke in Lagos when the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Integrity Youth Alliance, Abuja, Kehinde Adewole, visited the Zone 2 headquarters in Onikan to present him with the “Outstanding Excellence in Security Leadership Award 2026.”
Adewole said the award was presented in recognition of Jimoh’s leadership, professionalism and commitment to accountability-driven policing.
He highlighted several achievements recorded under Jimoh’s leadership, including the recovery of more than 115 stolen vehicles, the prosecution of suspected cult members and the maintenance of incident-free security operations during major festive celebrations while Jimoh served as Lagos State Commissioner of Police and subsequently as AIG of Zone 2.
According to Adewole, the deployment of 250 personnel and 50 tactical vehicles to strategic locations, as well as improved response to security incidents across parts of Lagos, also contributed to the recognition.
Jimoh: Award belongs to police officers
Responding to the honour, Jimoh said the award was not solely a recognition of his personal efforts but a reflection of the hard work and dedication of officers and men serving under the command.
He said the recognition would motivate the personnel to continue improving their performance and serving Nigerians with greater commitment.
“This award is a special appreciation for the integrity and hard work of our officers. It is a recognition of what we have been doing, but we must not allow the award to get into our heads. Rather, it should support and encourage us to do more for the people we are serving,” he said.
Jimoh explained that his previous experience as Commissioner of Police in Lagos had given him a deeper understanding of the security challenges confronting Lagos and Ogun states.
He described both states as strategically important to Nigeria because of their extensive commercial and industrial activities.
Police to strengthen security along Lagos-Ogun corridors
The AIG said Zone 2 Command had introduced various measures aimed at reducing crime, protecting critical infrastructure and improving public safety across Lagos and Ogun.
He pledged to further strengthen security along major corridors linking the two states through intelligence-led policing and improved coordination.
Jimoh also commended residents for their cooperation with security agencies, noting that information provided by members of the public had contributed to the prevention and detection of crimes.
He encouraged residents to continue reporting suspicious activities while also offering constructive criticism whenever they noticed shortcomings in police operations.
“Wherever you notice any misconduct or activities of the police that you are not satisfied with, our doors are widely open for complaints to be made and properly addressed,” he said.
He urged members of the public to channel petitions against police officers, including senior officers, through the appropriate procedures so that the allegations could be properly investigated.
Zone 2 to deepen community policing
Jimoh said the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had introduced initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation between the police and members of the public, improving personnel training and rebuilding confidence in the force.
He assured residents that Zone 2 would continue to engage communities and other stakeholders through community policing initiatives and other partnership programmes.
Also speaking, rights activist Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, described Jimoh as deserving of the award.
He attributed the relative improvement in security in Lagos to teamwork among security agencies, intelligence-led policing and stronger engagement between the police and communities.
