APC Names Fubara, Governors as Coordinators for Presidential Primary
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, alongside several serving and former governors, as coordinators and collation officers for its presidential primary election scheduled for May 24, 2026.
The party also confirmed that it would adopt the direct primary method, allowing all registered APC members across the country to participate in the exercise.
According to a document released by the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, the primary election will be conducted in all 8,809 wards nationwide.
The document, signed by the APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, stated that state coordinators and collation officers would oversee the conduct of the exercise in their assigned states and forward results to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja.

“The organisation and conduct of the direct primary in each of the 36 states and the FCT shall be the responsibility of the State Coordinator and Collation Officer, who shall also collate the results of all the local governments in the state and present the same to the Presidential Primary Election Committee in Abuja,” the statement read in part.
The party explained that the existing guidelines earlier submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission on the conduct of direct and consensus primaries would also apply to the presidential primary.
Fubara’s inclusion in the exercise has attracted attention due to his prolonged political crisis with his former political ally and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The political tension in Rivers State had earlier escalated to threats of impeachment and eventually led to the declaration of a state of emergency by President Bola Tinubu before peace talks were later brokered between both camps.
Following the intervention, political activities in the state gradually stabilised.
Other APC governors were also assigned as coordinators and collation officers in their respective states as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
