APC RECALIBRATES: TINUBU LEADS STRATEGIC CONSULTATIONS, ADJUSTS PRIMARY TIMETABLE

President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) are reportedly intensifying internal political coordination ahead of the 2027 general elections through a series of closed-door meetings, revised primary election timelines, and strategic political alignments involving governors and party leaders.

The president recently met behind closed doors with APC governors at the State House in Abuja, in a session that was later moved to his office conference room. The meeting, which included members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Hope Uzodimma, brought together several state leaders, including governors and deputy governors from different regions.

Although the agenda was not officially disclosed, the engagement is believed to be part of broader consultations within the ruling party as it prepares for upcoming electoral activities. The meeting came shortly after Tinubu also held a separate emergency discussion with Senate leadership.

At the same time, the APC has dismissed reports suggesting restrictions on the sale of nomination forms ahead of the 2027 elections, insisting that the process remains open to all qualified members. Party officials emphasized that internal democracy will be maintained, and no aspirant will be excluded from contesting.

The party also announced a revised timetable for its primaries, with presidential primaries now scheduled for May 23, 2026, while governorship primaries will hold earlier in May. Other stages, including screening, appeals, and delegate congresses, have also been adjusted in line with electoral guidelines and legal requirements.

In addition, the APC confirmed the commencement of nomination form sales from late April 2026, followed by screening and staggered primaries for legislative and executive positions across different levels.

Reports also suggest that President Tinubu is encouraging second-term governors within the party to consider senatorial bids in the next elections. The strategy is said to be aimed at strengthening party unity, improving coordination during campaigns, and ensuring strong support for the APC across federal and state levels.

Some political observers believe the move could reshape internal party dynamics, especially in states where outgoing governors may contest legislative seats against established political figures.
