The resolution reportedly led to the withdrawal of former Minister of State for Housing, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, who stepped down from the race to support the return of Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin to the National Assembly.

The agreement was reached following a series of reconciliation meetings involving Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alongside senior political figures including former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and other party leaders.

In a video message, Gwarzo confirmed his withdrawal, describing the decision as one taken in the interest of unity and stability within the party. He also expressed support for Barau’s candidacy and pledged continued loyalty to the party’s leadership.

Senator Barau, reacting in a separate video, commended Gwarzo for his decision and praised Governor Yusuf for helping to broker peace within the party structure, while reaffirming his commitment to the development of the APC in the state.

The consensus arrangement followed earlier disagreements that had split support among party stakeholders in the district, with competing blocs initially backing different aspirants before the final agreement was reached.

Party leaders are now expected to mobilise support behind the agreed candidate as preparations continue for the 2027 election cycle.
