Suspected Boko Haram fighters have reportedly carried out a fresh assault on Benishiekh town along the Maiduguri–Damaturu highway in Borno State, targeting a military installation in the area.
The attack, which was said to have begun around 11 p.m. on Tuesday, has heightened security concerns in the region. Benishiekh serves as the headquarters of Kaga Local Government Area and has previously witnessed similar violent incidents linked to insurgent activities.

Security sources reported that the attackers appeared to be advancing toward the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation Hadin Kai, the same general area where a senior military officer and several soldiers were previously killed during earlier clashes with insurgents.
Following the incident, military aircraft, including fighter jets and helicopters, were observed patrolling the skies around Maiduguri, the state capital located about 75 kilometres from the affected community.

The latest attack adds to a growing list of assaults on military formations in the North-East. In earlier operations, senior officers and soldiers lost their lives during encounters with insurgents, often due to improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted along operational routes.
The Joint Task Force, North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, confirmed previous incidents involving terrorist attacks on military positions, noting that troops had engaged the attackers and repelled several offensives, although with casualties recorded on the side of the armed forces.

Authorities have consistently described fallen officers as heroes, highlighting their courage, leadership, and sacrifice in defending territorial integrity despite the risks involved in frontline operations.

Borno State remains the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency, which has also affected neighbouring countries in the Lake Chad region, including Chad and Cameroon. The conflict has resulted in widespread displacement and humanitarian challenges affecting millions of people.
The latest incident has once again raised questions about the increasing frequency of attacks on military bases and the evolving tactics used by insurgent groups in the region.
