OSUN 2026: ADELEKE CAMPAIGN INSISTS RACE IS NOT OVER, CLAIMS CANDIDATE IS CLOSING GAP ON AP
The campaign council of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has rejected suggestions that its candidate has lost the governorship election, insisting that the contest remains open as further results emerge from polling units.
According to the council, Adeleke is gradually closing the gap on the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who reportedly established an early lead in provisional tallies circulated by party situation rooms and election monitors.
The campaign urged supporters to remain calm and avoid drawing conclusions from incomplete figures, maintaining that results from several areas had yet to be fully collated.
However, the council’s assertion remains a political claim and does not constitute an official election result. Provisional figures released by campaign organisations, observers or online platforms may be incomplete, duplicated or drawn from polling units that have not completed the required verification process.
Only the Independent National Electoral Commission has the constitutional authority to collate, announce and declare the final result of the election.
As the exercise progresses, political parties and their supporters must refrain from spreading unverified figures or declaring victory prematurely. The emerging numbers may indicate the direction of the contest, but they cannot replace INEC’s formal collation.
For now, APC reportedly retains the lead, while Adeleke’s campaign insists the margin is narrowing.
