In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Ernest Agada, Gabaya said the move aims to “boost” council development through stronger collaboration with the Federal Government, as well as realign politically ahead of the 2027 elections.

Gabaya, who was elected on the PDP platform in 2019 and is concluding his second tenure in June, is also seeking to represent the AMAC/Bwari constituency in the House of Representatives in the 2027 polls.

The chairman said his decision followed fervent prayers, extensive consultations, and strict compliance with the constitutional provisions of the parties involved.

“I have wholeheartedly embraced the APC as a platform for advancing peace, unity, and development in Bwari Area Council, Abuja. It is for better collaborations with the Federal Government to ensure long-term council development, and this decision followed extensive stakeholder consultations,” he stated.

Gabaya paid tribute to those who supported his tenure as chairman, expressing respect and affection for his former associates in the PDP. He emphasised that his defection is not rooted in enmity but a broader vision for the collective interest of the council’s development.

He also expressed confidence that Bwari Area Council would “deliver overwhelming support for President Bola Tinubu” in the 2027 elections and prayed for a peaceful and credible electoral process.
