On behalf of the Hausawa Tsantsa Development Association (HATDA)
Fellow Nigerians, this is a clarion call to the indigenous people of Nigeria to remain vigilant against a renewed push for the imposition of Sharia law, driven by the Fulani elite as part of their broader agenda to dominate and control our nation.
For 220 years, the Hausa people have endured deception, subjugation, and cultural erasure under Fulani domination. Today, we, the Hausa people, united beyond religious lines, are determined to reclaim our heritage, autonomy, and leadership in our lands, spanning Zamfara, Kano, Sokoto, Jigawa, Katsina, Zaria, Biram, Daura, Gobir, and Rano.
The Fulani Agenda and the Role of Sharia
The Fulani elite, realizing the loss of their stronghold in Hausaland, have turned to Sharia as their primary tool for perpetuating control. While claiming to uphold Islamic values, their implementation of Sharia law has been marked by hypocrisy and selective application, targeting vulnerable Hausa communities while sparing Fulani elites.
Notably, since Sharia was introduced in Zamfara State 24 years ago, no Fulani individual—whether poor or powerful—has been convicted under its laws. Meanwhile, impoverished Hausa people have faced harsh punishments, such as amputations for minor thefts. Hisbah, the Sharia enforcement agency, operates mainly in Hausa-majority areas, while states like Sokoto—home to the Sultan and the supposed seat of Islam in Nigeria—remain free from its scrutiny.
This double standard highlights the true purpose of Sharia under Fulani rule: a tool for subjugation, not justice.
A History of Fulani Intrusion and Deception
The Fulani’s history of domination extends beyond Nigeria. Across West Africa, and even in historical accounts of Spain, they have employed treachery, land-grabbing, and violence to destabilize host communities. Today, prominent Fulani figures in Nigeria, including Atiku Abubakar, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Nasir El-Rufai, and Nuhu Ribadu, are at the forefront of efforts to entrench Sharia law and facilitate Fulani dominance.
The appointment of non-Fulani clerics in key Islamic positions, such as Prof. Ishaq Oloyede and Barr. Haroun Mohammed Eze, serves as a tactic to sow division among indigenous groups, using these individuals as pawns in the Fulani agenda.
The Hausa People’s Resolve
The Hausa people have awakened to this deception. We categorically reject the imposition of Sharia law and any form of Fulani leadership in Hausaland. Our history, culture, and autonomy must not be further eroded by external forces.
We urge all indigenous Nigerians to unite against this agenda. It is time to reject Fulani dominance and reclaim our collective heritage and sovereignty. Together, we can ensure that the future of Nigeria is built on equality, justice, and respect for all its peoples.
