DIGITAL SHIFT: FG INTENSIFIES VERIFICATION DRIVE FOR PRE-2004 CIVIL SERVANTS

FG Moves to Boost Civil Servants’ Participation in Pension Verification

The Federal Government has stepped up efforts to improve participation in the ongoing mandatory verification and enrolment exercise for civil servants with accrued pension rights, following a low turnout recorded so far.

The exercise, being conducted by the National Pension Commission (PenCom), is a one-time nationwide online verification and enrolment programme targeting active employees in treasury-funded Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

It is specifically designed for civil servants who were employed before June 30, 2004, under the old pension scheme, to properly capture and validate their records for pension processing.

Officials say the initiative is crucial for ensuring that eligible workers receive their accrued pension benefits without delays, while also helping the government maintain accurate and updated records.

However, the slow response from affected workers has prompted renewed efforts to raise awareness and encourage compliance, as authorities warn that failure to participate could affect future pension entitlements.
