DISCLOSE OUTCOME OF CORRUPTION CASE AGAINST EX-MINISTER EDU – TABUKO TO PRESIDENCY, EFCC

Beta Edu Probe: Activist Gives Tinubu, EFCC Five-Day Ultimatum Over Corruption Case

A public affairs analyst and civil society advocate, Kennedy Tabuko, has called on President Bola Tinubu and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to make public the outcome of the corruption investigation involving former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu.

Tabuko made the demand in a statement issued on Thursday, expressing concern over the prolonged silence surrounding the case.

Betta Edu was removed from office following allegations linked to a ₦585 billion financial scandal. The EFCC subsequently announced that it had launched an investigation into the matter, but no official findings have been released to the public.

The activist noted that despite the unresolved case, Edu has recently been seen at public events alongside First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, a development he described as troubling and insensitive to public concerns.

According to Tabuko, the President should have ensured that the former minister maintained a distance from official circles until the investigation was concluded and its outcome made known.

He argued that allowing Edu to appear publicly in the company of top government officials sends the wrong message to Nigerians and could damage the government’s anti-corruption image.

“We demand that until Betta Edu’s case is concluded and the EFCC makes public the findings of its investigation, it will continue to reflect poorly on the government and the country to see her around the corridors of power,” he said.

Tabuko warned that Nigerians should not be taken for granted, insisting that transparency and accountability must be upheld.

He further issued a five-day ultimatum to the Presidency and anti-corruption agencies, demanding that the outcome of all investigations involving the former minister be disclosed.

According to him, if no official update is provided within the specified period, he and other concerned citizens would mobilise peaceful protests to demand accountability.

“A word, they say, is enough for the wise,” Tabuko stated, stressing that public confidence in the fight against corruption depends on openness and equal treatment for all individuals, regardless of status or political connections.
