EFCC, NRS Strengthen Collaboration on Tax Compliance in Kano
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) have agreed to strengthen their partnership in Kano, particularly in intelligence sharing and joint enforcement efforts aimed at improving tax compliance and boosting government revenue.
The Acting Zonal Director of the EFCC’s Kano Directorate, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1 Friday S. Ebelo, made the commitment on Monday, August 10, 2026, during a courtesy visit to the Regional Administrator of the NRS, Dr. Ismail Abdullahi, at the agency’s Kano office.
The visit was aimed at deepening the existing relationship between the two agencies and improving cooperation in tackling tax evasion, financial crimes and other activities that could deprive the government of legitimate revenue.
Speaking on behalf of the EFCC Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, Ebelo commended the NRS for its leadership and recent efforts to improve tax administration in the country.
He described the progress recorded in tax administration as significant and stressed that the EFCC would continue to support efforts to protect government revenue.
“As you are aware, our agency holds a strategic position in coordinating economic and financial crimes-related activities in the country. We will not stay back and watch individuals cheat the nation of its legitimate revenue,” he said.
Ebelo said the visit was necessary to revitalise cooperation between the two institutions and called for closer collaboration to ensure that tax defaulters and those involved in financial misconduct are held accountable.
He noted that stronger intelligence sharing and joint investigative efforts between the EFCC and NRS would contribute to the country’s revenue mobilisation drive.
Responding, Abdullahi welcomed the EFCC delegation and expressed his readiness to strengthen cooperation between the two agencies.
He said inter-agency collaboration was important in tackling tax fraud, improving investigations and encouraging taxpayers to comply voluntarily with their obligations.
“We are happy to collaborate with you. This relationship has existed for some time, and it is a good thing that we collaborate to make it work even better,” Abdullahi said.
He explained that the NRS’s core responsibility is to assess and collect revenue, adding that the agency was willing to work closely with the EFCC on intelligence sharing and investigative activities.
Abdullahi also explained the significance of the agency’s recent name change from the Federal Inland Revenue Service to the Nigeria Revenue Service, saying the new name reflects its broader role in the country’s tax administration system.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to working together to strengthen tax compliance, combat revenue-related crimes and support the government’s efforts to increase national revenue.
