FCT POLICE COMMISSIONER URGES IRU EKUN SECURITY NETWORK TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATION WITH SECURITY AGENCIES

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has urged the Iru Ekun Security Network to strengthen its collaboration with security agencies to improve community policing and tackle insecurity across the country.

Sanusi gave the directive during a strategic meeting with the FCT coordinator of the security network, Segun Olufadeju, popularly known as Aluwaye, and members of his team at the Police Command headquarters in Abuja.

The police commissioner stressed that effective cooperation between the network, the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other paramilitary agencies was essential to preventing crime and maintaining peace.

He also advised the security outfit to notify the relevant security agencies, particularly divisional police authorities within their areas of operation, about their crime prevention and detection activities before taking action.

The meeting was described as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation between the police and community-based security organisations in combating criminal activities and promoting peace and stability.

The founder of Iru Ekun Security Network and Yoruba Nation activist, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, commended the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, for supporting the organisation’s activities.

In a statement issued by his media office, Igboho said cooperation with the police had contributed to the network’s reported achievements in addressing abductions, banditry and farmer-herder clashes.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to working with relevant security stakeholders to protect communities, prevent criminal activities and safeguard law-abiding residents, particularly in South-West Nigeria.

Igboho also acknowledged the contributions of the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.); the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu; the Director-General of the DSS, Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi; and other security agency leaders.

He said the organisation would continue to build on existing partnerships in the interest of national security.

Meanwhile, Olufadeju assured Sanusi that the FCT chapter of Iru Ekun Security Network would continue to inform and engage the police on its activities, in line with the need for coordinated security operations.
