FIFA has imposed lifetime bans on two former football federation presidents following investigations into serious financial misconduct and abuse of their positions.
The officials are Vincent Cassell, former president of the Montserrat Football Association, and Bassam Adeel Jaleel, former president of the Football Association of Maldives.
Cassell was sanctioned over allegations involving abuse of position, systemic conflicts of interest and misuse of funds belonging to FIFA and the Montserrat federation.
Jaleel was punished for misusing COVID-19 relief funds intended to support football development. Investigators found that FIFA funds were transferred into his personal account and used to acquire property.
FIFA also fined Jaleel one million Swiss francs. Local reports indicate that he is serving prison sentences totalling 32 years in connection with the misuse of funds.
In addition to the lifetime bans, former Maldives FA finance director Mohamed Ageel received a 10-year ban and a fine of 100,000 Swiss francs for helping conceal the misuse of funds through falsified documents.
The sanctions are part of FIFA’s ongoing disciplinary measures aimed at addressing financial misconduct and strengthening accountability within football administration.
