Residents in several parts of Lagos State are experiencing power outages after flooding affected key electricity transmission facilities, according to Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC).
The electricity distributor said the disruption followed a force majeure declared by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on the Oworonshoki 132/33kV and Lekki 330/132kV transmission substations, which were impacted by severe flooding.
A force majeure refers to unforeseen events, such as extreme weather, that prevent normal operations and are beyond the control of the affected parties.

EKEDC said the outage has affected several communities, including Chevron Drive, Agungi, Alpha Beach, Ikate, Elegushi, Oniru, Maroko, Muri Okunola, Ajose Adeogun, Ligali Ayorinde, Aboyade Cole, Landmark Road, Igbo Efon, Lekki Tollgate 2, Jakande/Coastal Road, Ajiran, Osapa London, and other surrounding areas.
The company assured customers that its technical team is working closely with relevant stakeholders to restore electricity supply as soon as the transmission infrastructure becomes operational again.
Meanwhile, the Transmission Company of Nigeria announced a separate planned maintenance exercise in its Delta sub-region.
According to the company, engineers will install a 132kV bus coupler circuit breaker and rehabilitate five isolators on the main bus bar at the Delta 132/33kV transmission substation.

The maintenance work is scheduled to take place daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. between July 2 and July 4.
During the exercise, customers served by the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Effurun, Warri, Sapele, Osubi, PTI, PMSL, Enerhen, Refinery I, and Refinery II will experience temporary power interruptions.

The planned outage will also affect electricity supplied through several 33kV feeders serving Isoko/Kwale, Otovwodo/Patani, Ughelli/Shell, Agbarho/Eku, Aladja, Imoniyame, and Beta Glass.

TCN said electricity supply would be restored at the end of each day’s maintenance work and apologised to affected customers for the temporary inconvenience.
