Here is the full text of President Tinubu’s New Year message:
Fellow Nigerians,
As we step into 2025, I extend my warmest wishes for a happy and prosperous New Year. May this year bring you joy, success, and good health.
The arrival of the new year brings with it new hopes, aspirations, and the promise of brighter days. By the grace of God, 2025 will be a year of great promise as we collectively work towards fulfilling our shared dreams and desires.
Though 2024 presented many challenges, I am optimistic that the New Year holds the potential for better days ahead.
Economic indicators suggest a positive outlook for our nation. Fuel prices have seen a gradual decrease, and we have achieved foreign trade surpluses for three consecutive quarters. Our foreign reserves are on the rise, and the Naira has strengthened against the US dollar, contributing to greater economic stability.
The stock market’s record growth has generated trillions of naira in wealth, and the surge in foreign investment reflects renewed confidence in our economy. However, the high cost of food and essential drugs remained a major concern for many Nigerian households in 2024.
In 2025, my government is committed to lowering these costs by increasing food production and promoting local manufacturing of essential drugs and medical supplies. We are focused on reducing inflation from its current rate of 34.6% to 15%, and with hard work and God’s guidance, we will reach this goal and provide relief for all Nigerians.
Additionally, my administration will enhance access to credit for individuals and key sectors of the economy to stimulate growth. To achieve this, we will establish the National Credit Guarantee Company, aimed at expanding risk-sharing instruments for financial institutions and businesses.
The company is set to begin operations by the second quarter of 2025 and will involve partnerships between government institutions, the private sector, and multilateral organizations. This initiative will build confidence in the financial system, expand credit access, and support underserved groups, such as women and youth. It will foster growth, re-industrialization, and improved living standards for our people.
I am truly humbled by your trust in me as your president, and I promise to continue serving you with dedication and integrity. We will persist in our reform efforts to drive sustainable growth and prosperity for our nation.
I ask for your continued cooperation and support as we work towards realizing our vision of a one trillion-dollar economy. Let us remain focused and united.
Together, we are on the right path to building a great Nigeria that works for everyone. Let us not be distracted by a small segment of our population that still views issues through the lens of politics, ethnicity, region, or religion.
CITIZENSHIP
For us to achieve our national objectives, we must all be better citizens, committed to our shared future and unwavering in our devotion to Nigeria.
Citizens’ moral integrity and faith in our country are fundamental to the success of the Renewed Hope Agenda. In 2025, we will prioritize ethical principles, shared values, and beliefs as part of the National Identity Project.
In the first quarter of 2025, I will unveil the National Values Charter, which has already been approved by the Federal Executive Council. This will be accompanied by a national orientation campaign aimed at fostering patriotism, love for our country, and unity among citizens. The Charter will emphasize mutual commitments between the government and citizens and will help build trust and cooperation across our diverse population.
Our far-reaching reforms can only succeed through common values, identities, and an unconditional love for our nation.
The Youth Conference will also take place in the first quarter of 2025, affirming our commitment to youth involvement and investment in nation-building. The Ministry of Youth will soon announce the criteria for selecting representatives from Nigeria’s diverse youth population.
Dear Compatriots, I urge you to keep believing in yourselves and in our country.
I also call on our governors and local government chairpersons to collaborate with the federal government to seize new opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. I commend governors who have embraced the Compressed Natural Gas initiative for public transport and those who have integrated electric vehicles into our national energy transition. The federal government will continue to offer support to the states.
To all citizens, your sacrifices over the past 19 months have not been in vain, and I assure you they will bear fruit in the months ahead. Together, we will continue on the path of nation-building.
2025 will bring us closer to the brighter future we all envision and the Nigeria of our dreams.
God bless you all, and may God bless our beloved country, Nigeria.
Happy New Year and a prosperous 2025!
Bola Ahmed Tinubu,
President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria
