Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, is scheduled to visit Nigeria from July 21 to 22 for a series of high-level meetings aimed at strengthening political, economic and regional cooperation between both countries.
The visit will take place in Lagos and Abuja and highlights the longstanding partnership between Germany and Nigeria.
Wadephul will be accompanied by a delegation comprising chief executives and senior executives of German companies operating in the information technology and energy sectors, as well as members of the German Parliament.
During his stay in Abuja, the German foreign minister is expected to meet with Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ujukwu, and the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Dr Omar Touray. Discussions will focus on regional security, peace, economic integration and opportunities to expand cooperation between Germany and West Africa.
In Lagos, the visit will centre on boosting economic and cultural relations. Wadephul will attend a business roundtable involving German and Nigerian companies to explore new opportunities for trade, investment and commercial partnerships. He is also expected to engage with civil society organisations and members of the creative and cultural sectors.
Germany described Nigeria as one of its most important partners in Africa, noting the country’s strategic role in promoting sustainable economic growth, energy transition, regional stability and addressing broader global challenges.
According to the German government, the visit reflects its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria while expanding cooperation across the West African region.
