#Governor Adeleke Moves to Pardon Man Sentenced to Death for Stealing Fowl

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has intervened in the case of a young man reportedly sentenced to death by hanging for stealing a fowl.

In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, Governor Adeleke directed the state Attorney General to urgently review the case and initiate the process for granting a prerogative of mercy.

Governor’s Commitment to Justice

“I have reviewed the case and respect the separation of powers in our democracy. However, I have instructed the Commissioner for Justice to commence the necessary steps to ensure the young man is considered for a pardon before the year ends,” the Governor said.

Governor Adeleke emphasized the importance of justice and equity, ensuring fairness and the sanctity of life in the state.

“Osun is a land of justice and equity. We must balance fairness with compassion,” he added.

Immediate Action

The Governor assured the public of his direct involvement in the matter, stressing the urgency of addressing the case.

“This matter is receiving my full attention, and we are acting swiftly as a responsible government,” he noted.

The statement was signed by Mallam Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to the Governor.
