A man in Louisiana has been killed by police after a domestic violence incident that left eight children dead and two others injured in Shreveport on Sunday morning.
Authorities said the attack unfolded across two homes and a nearby location, with victims aged between one and about 14 years old. Police confirmed that some of the children were related to the suspect.
Shreveport Police spokesperson Chris Bordelon said officers were alerted to the scene and later pursued the suspect after he fled in a stolen vehicle. The chase ended when officers confronted him, and he was shot. He was later pronounced dead. His identity has not yet been released, but officials confirmed he was an adult male.
Investigators are still working to understand what led to the incident and how events unfolded across the different locations.
Residents in the area described a shocking and confusing scene. One neighbour, Liza Demming, said her home security camera captured footage of the suspect running away from one of the houses, heading toward a nearby tyre shop. She said the audio recorded what sounded like two gunshots.
Demming also said she later saw the body of a child victim covered on the roof of a house near the scene, adding that there had been no obvious signs of disturbance beforehand.
“There was no noise, no argument, nothing unusual,” she said.
Police say investigations are ongoing as the community comes to terms with the tragedy.
