#Gunmen Abduct Abuja-Bound Passengers in Kogi, Demand ₦100 Million Ransom Per Victim

Unknown gunmen have kidnapped all passengers aboard a commercial bus traveling from Lagos to Abuja in the Obajana area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Saturday when the bus, operated by GIG Mobility, was attacked by the assailants near Obajana, heading toward Lokoja. While all passengers were reportedly abducted, the driver managed to escape.

Ransom Demands and Witness Accounts

According to reports, the kidnappers have contacted the families of the victims, demanding a staggering ₦100 million per person for their release.

An X user shared her distress online, stating that her friend was among the victims. She pleaded for public assistance, saying:

“Please, I need your help. My friend, who attended her convocation in Benin Republic (Cotonou), was kidnapped on her way back from Lagos to Abuja. The kidnappers are demanding ₦100 million for her release. No amount is too small; help me get my friend back.”

Another witness who narrowly avoided the incident recounted how his overheated car saved him from becoming a victim:

“I drove past the scene yesterday. The bus’s windscreens were destroyed, and only the driver remained. This happened just after Dangote Refinery at Obajana.”

Official Reaction

In a statement shared on Sunday, GIG Mobility confirmed the tragic incident, expressing their concern:

“We are deeply affected by this situation and share the pain of those involved. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted.”

Growing Concern Over Security

This alarming event highlights the persistent insecurity in Nigeria’s transport routes, particularly in regions like Kogi State. Authorities are urged to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and improve safety on the country’s highways.
