IHEDIOHA, AMADI, ANYANWU URGED TO RUN FOR SENATE

Political stakeholders in Imo State have urged former governor Emeka Ihedioha, technocrat Chima Amadi, and Peoples Democratic Party chieftain Samuel Anyanwu to contest the Owerri senatorial seat as political realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 elections.

The appeal was made in a statement issued in Abuja by a member of the Owerri Mandate Group, Pius Nwokedi, who said the decision reflects a consensus among stakeholders concerned about the political direction of the zone.

According to him, the senatorial race is being considered not just as a legislative contest but as a strategic platform that could shape the 2027 governorship race in Imo State.

He explained that securing the Owerri senatorial seat would provide visibility, influence, and political momentum for any aspirant aiming for the state’s top office in the next election cycle.

Nwokedi added that the outcome of the election could significantly alter the balance of political power in the state, especially as parties begin early positioning against the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Several support groups, including the Owerri Zonal Equity Movement and other local stakeholder forums, also backed the idea, arguing that zoning considerations and political realities make the strategy necessary for the zone’s competitiveness.

They maintained that the Owerri senatorial seat could serve as a strong foundation for a credible governorship bid in 2027, urging potential contenders to prioritize unity and strategic planning.

A grassroots political figure in the state also noted that winning the Senate seat would be crucial for building the strength needed to challenge the ruling party effectively in the next governorship election.

Although Emeka Ihedioha, Chima Amadi, and Samuel Anyanwu have not publicly declared interest in the race, sources suggest that consultations are ongoing within their political circles.
