INEC RAISES ALARM OF FAKE GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATES IN SIX STATES (FULL LIST)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians against a fraudulent online publication claiming to contain a special announcement about governorship candidates in six states ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The affected states are Zamfara, Gombe, Delta, Plateau, Yobe and Kano.

In a public notice issued on Monday, October 12, the electoral commission clarified that the circulating document was fake and had not been issued by the commission.

INEC urged members of the public to disregard the publication and avoid sharing it, warning that the spread of false electoral information could mislead voters and create confusion as preparations for the elections continue.

The commission also dismissed claims suggesting that it had released a special announcement concerning governorship candidates in the six states.

Political parties, candidates and members of the public were advised to verify election-related information through INEC’s official communication channels, including its website, news portal and verified social media accounts.

The warning comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, following the publication of the final lists of governorship candidates in states scheduled to hold elections on February 6, 2027.

INEC reiterated its commitment to providing accurate electoral information and called on Nigerians to exercise caution when encountering election-related announcements circulating on social media.
