INSECURITY: SERVICE CHIEFS, HOMELAND SECURITY, RIBADU SUMMONED BY HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES.

The House of Representatives has summoned Nigeria’s service chiefs and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, to appear before lawmakers over the escalating security situation across the country.

The decision was taken during Tuesday’s plenary session following the adoption of a motion presented by Sulaiman Gumi, who represents the Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency of Zamfara State.

Lawmakers expressed concern over the recent surge in violent attacks and mass abductions in several parts of the country, which have intensified public anxiety and calls for stronger security responses.

The move comes after multiple incidents involving the kidnapping of students and teachers, including the abduction of more than 40 pupils and staff from schools in Oyo State, as well as similar attacks reported in Borno State.

These incidents triggered widespread outrage, with the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) staging protests nationwide and demanding the immediate release of the victims. Other civil society groups also joined in calling for urgent government intervention.

In reaction to the Oyo attack, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu dispatched a high-level delegation, including the Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, and NSA Nuhu Ribadu, to the affected community.

During the visit, Gbajabiamila stated that the President was deeply concerned about the situation and fully committed to securing the safe return of all abducted victims. He added that the administration was deploying all available resources to address the crisis.

The President has also approved the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards and ordered intensified security operations, including the deployment of a specialised rescue unit to track and recover kidnapped victims.
