Katsina United have dismissed reports that their player, Chinedu Ozor, regained consciousness after being pronounced dead following his collapse during a pre-season friendly against Niger Tornadoes in Katsina.
The club clarified the situation in a statement shared on its X account on Wednesday, explaining that the reports were false and resulted from a misunderstanding surrounding the circumstances after Ozor’s death.
Ozor collapsed during the match at the Muhammad Dikko Stadium in Katsina. Despite efforts to save him, the player later died.
Katsina United said reports suggesting that Ozor came back to life were untrue, noting that his family had requested additional medical confirmation before his body was taken to the mortuary.
The club explained that the family, devastated by the incident and hoping for a different outcome, wanted further confirmation from medical personnel.
However, the club stressed that the request for another medical assessment should not be interpreted as evidence that Ozor was still alive.
Katsina United said Ozor never regained consciousness and had passed away.
The club appealed to members of the public to stop spreading rumours and unverified information about the player’s condition, saying such reports could cause further pain to his grieving family, teammates and friends.
The club urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and allow Ozor to be remembered with dignity.
It added that his teammates also needed time and space to mourn their colleague.
Katsina United concluded by appealing to everyone to stop the speculation and allow the late player to rest in peace.
